Casa del Sol Enrollment FAQ

How does enrollment work at Casa del Sol?
Casa del Sol offers ongoing enrollment for most class levels. With the exception of the Low Novice Beginner course, students may join an existing class at any time, as long as space is available and the class is an appropriate fit for their speaking level.
Once you enroll, you begin your own 12-class session—you do not need to wait for the entire group to begin a new session together. Each student is on their own 12-week track, while classes continue running year-round.
At the end of your 12 classes, you’ll have the option to “re-up” for another 12-week session and continue progressing with your cohort. Staying with the same group over time helps build community, connection, and comfort, which is especially important when learning to speak a new language. As students get to know one another, they often become more comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and speaking more freely.
T
hat said, there is always flexibility to move to a different class when needed. As your Spanish progresses, you may move to a different level, and if your schedule changes, we can look at other class options that may be a better fit. The goal is to give students the consistency and community of a cohort while still allowing room to adjust as their level, needs, or schedule change.
Do I need to complete a placement call?
Anyone interested in joining a class beyond the Low Novice Beginner level will need to schedule a short placement call.
The placement call is a friendly, low-pressure conversation that allows me to learn more about your previous experience with Spanish, your current speaking and comprehension skills, and your learning goals. You may be asked a few simple questions in Spanish, but this is not a formal test.
Students who are brand new to Spanish and enrolling in the Low Novice Beginner course do not need to complete a placement call.

Why is placement important?
The most important part of enrollment at Casa del Sol is placing incoming students among “like-speakers”, classmates who are at or around a similar speaking level.
Learning another language requires a willingness to try, make mistakes, take risks, and be vulnerable. I want every student to feel comfortable practicing and using Spanish as much as possible without feeling intimidated, rushed, or held back.
Thoughtful placement helps create a supportive environment where students feel safe participating, asking questions, making mistakes, and growing together.
How do I know which level is right for me?
Placement is based on what you can currently understand and communicate in Spanish, and less on your reading and writing ability or how many years you studied the language.
Many adults have studied Spanish in the past but may feel rusty or have difficulty speaking spontaneously. The placement call helps determine which class will offer the right amount of support and challenge.
Casa del Sol offers classes ranging from Low Novice Beginner through Intermediate and Advanced Conversation levels.
Can I join a class that has already started?
Yes. All classes except the Low Novice Beginner course accept students on an ongoing enrollment basis, provided there is room and the student’s speaking level is a good match for the group.
Because each student begins their own 12-class session on their enrollment date, you do not need to wait for a new group session to begin.
The Low Novice Beginner course has designated start dates so that brand-new Spanish learners can begin together and build a strong foundation at the same pace.
How much do classes cost?
The cost is $350 for 12 weekly classes.
A $150 nonrefundable deposit is required to reserve your spot. The remaining balance is due according to the payment schedule provided at enrollment. Payment plans may be available when arranged in advance.
How long is each class?
Each class meets once a week for approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Classes are intentionally kept small so that every student has frequent opportunities to speak, participate, ask questions, and build connections with classmates.
What happens if I miss a class?
Because classes continue moving forward each week, missed classes cannot be rescheduled or made up individually.
Class materials, resources, and assignments are posted in Google Classroom so that students can review what they missed and stay connected to the course.
How do I get started?
If you are brand new to Spanish, you can inquire about the next available Low Novice Beginner course.
If you have previous experience with Spanish, the first step is to schedule a short placement call. After the call, I will recommend the class that best matches your current speaking level, goals, and availability. If space is available, you can reserve your spot and begin your 12-class session.
